Basic directions to NFATC
:

DIRECTIONS to FSI from Rt. 50 (Arlington Blvd.)

The building address is 4000 Arlington Blvd. and the large sign out front says National Foreign Affairs Training Center. If you are heading west on Route 50 (Arlington Blvd.) take the George Mason Exit to the right (the one after Glebe Road).  Then take a left at the light crossing over Route 50.  At the end of the bridge take another left at that light as though you are getting back on to east bound Route 50. Our entrance is the second large entrance to the right on the ramp itself.  When you arrive, please bring a picture ID to show the guards at the gate and at the Visitor’s Center.  The guards in the Visitor’s Center will be able to direct you to the appropriate building and room.

Directions to FSI from Rt. 66

Get off of Rt. 66 at Ballston and go south on Glebe Road (Rt. 120). Go approximately 2 miles and you should see a KFC and McDonalds on the right side of the road.  Take the exit beside McDonalds that goes to the right onto Arlington Blvd. (Rt. 50) and stay in that lane. It becomes the exit that gets you to George Mason Drive.  When you get to the signal light at George Mason turn (south) left across the overpass. At the far side of the overpass is another signal light, go left at it as though you are getting on eastbound Rt. 50.  We are the second large entrance on the right side of the ramp to Rt. 50.  There will be a large sign that says “George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center” and you can see the guard booth behind it.  Turn in there.

A map of the campus' location in Virginia:
(Click here for a pre-9/11 version which shows permanent entrance on South George Mason Road; at this point, that entrance is open only until 10:00 a.m., while the entrance  via the eastbound Route 50 ramp is open all day.)

Click here for a 2011 map of the campus (showing the West Parcel remote lot).  Below that is a photo from GoogleEarth (taken before the 2008 construction of the K building, in the lower-right corner of the map/photo, between the Visitor's Center & F).

Visitor parking is now allowed in lots P1, P2, P3, & P4.  At the security checkpoint just inside the campus, you will need to show a picture ID and, as of 15 March 2010, fill out a form and pay a $5 fee.  Any invited speaker should be prepared to show the invitation letter.  Usually the first two lots are filled by 09:15, so leave enough time to find a space, clear security at the Visitor's Center, and get to the classroom.  If all spaces on-campus are full, please use the off-site West Parcel facility.  If you run into any last-minute delays, call me at my "emergency" cell-number, 202.746.6693.
